Killing Abortion Providers is NOT Justifiable Homicide

15 Feb

The United States is seriously going down the wrong direction. A bill that is being considered in South Dakota is looking to expand the definition of “justifiable homicide” to allow for the murder of abortion providers, clinic staff and volunteers. Basically, this bill would allow any father, mother, daughter, son or significant other to murder anyone connected to an abortion clinic if they suspected that there was “intent to harm” the unborn. This article states it better: “that a homicide is permissible if committed by a person “while resisting an attempt to harm” that person’s unborn child or the unborn child of that person’s spouse, partner, parent, or child. If the bill passes, it could in theory allow a woman’s father, mother, son, daughter, or husband to kill anyone who tried to provide that woman an abortion—even if she wanted one.”

What kind of insanity is this? How can the “unborn” have more right to life than those who are already alive and living with families and loved ones? What kind of convoluted thought process can come up with this crap?

Abortion providers aren’t murderers. They offer a needed medical service. One in every three women will access abortion services in her lifetime. Conservatives will access these services (37% of women who have abortions are  Protestant, 28% Catholic), liberals will access these services, independents will access these services, and socialists will access these services. There are over 310 million people in this country. Assuming exactly half of them are women, this means that over 50 million who are alive today, in this country, will utilize abortion services at one point or another.

We don’t have 50 million abortion providers in this country. We have a mere 1,793 providers servicing a population of 150 million. This works itself out to over 27,000 abortions per provider. If these numbers don’t outline the necessity of these procedures, I don’t know what will.

If this bill were to pass on a national level, you can bet that all of these providers would die. However, possibly the most ironic part of this situation is that South Dakota has no abortion providers in-state. And, only 6% of pregnancies ended in abortion in the first place. I question the motives of placing so much emphasis on this topic, when South Dakota doesn’t appear to have an “abortion problem” (other than the inability of its residents to access abortion services).

I still cannot wrap my head around the supposition that the “unborn” are somehow “better” and “more deserving” of the right to life than those that are already alive. That conservatives so often condone murder makes no sense to me. Can they not see the hypocrisy?

This post is misleading. The proposed bill does not make killing abortion providers justifiable homicide. The language is clear that the new classification only applies to illegal threats to the child’s safety. Since abortion is legal, it is not affected in the slightest.

    Bill defeated!

    From Jezebel:
South Dakota Was Just Kidding About Justifiable Homicide Of Abortion Providers!
The South Dakota bill expanding the definition of justifiable homicide to protect an unborn child is, well, dead. And it looks like we can thank the national shitstorm over the fact that it appeared to legalize the killing of abortion providers. Good job, everyone!

The New York Times reports that the bill, which had just made it out of committee, has been “shelved, pending a decision on whether to allow a vote, amend the language or drop it entirely.” A spokesman for the Governor said, “Clearly the bill as it’s currently written is a very bad idea.”

On the first day after Mother Jones brought the debate over the bill to a national scale, the representative who proposed it, Phil Jensen, hastily made the rounds insisting, unconvincingly, that it had nothing to do with abortion. That was Tuesday.!5762994/south-dakota-was-just-kidding-about-justifiable-homicide-of-abortion-providers
