These comments — and this website — so encourage me. I sympathize that the mainstream prochoice organizations feel they must craft messages that “appeal to the center.” But those groups (and the donors) made a historic error not to nurture a more radical, unapologetic flank. The other side certainly has a radical flank, but NARAL is now positioned as the extreme left on the issue.

There has been no attention in the media to unapologetic voices. We can’t win if we are always fighting on the defensive. We need to normalize abortion. We NEED the media to understand that:
    1. Abortion is NOT always a difficult or tragic decision (mine wasn’t at all); it can be a simple decision and a relief.
    2. Facing an unplanned pregnancy can also be a moment that catalyzes reflection and positive personal growth.
    3. One in three American women HAS an abortion.

I want you to know you cost me an 8 year marriage. My husband seen your website on my laptop. He blew his stack and said if that was how I felt about having kids then he did not want anything to do with a woman like that. He’s packed his clothes and left for his parents home out of state. I hate you for this, and I am not going to listen to you anymore. Are you just a linely woman with nothing better to do? If you can’t have kids,ok then but leave the rest of us alone. He won’t even answer his phone now, it’s all your fault. I hate you!

    Hi Julie,
First off I want to say you have my utter compassion and sympathy for what’s happening between you and your husband. I’m so sorry that everything seems to have gone off the rails for you in such a fashion. I feel truly awful for you that things have gone so terribly for you.

That said – Sophia is one of many of us who write posts for this blog. And Sophia, like the rest of us, is a beautiful wonderful caring person who loves children, as well as her family, friends and others in the world. It just so happens that she also (like all of us here) feels fiercely protective of women as well as very fired-up when anyone thinks they should have any control over another woman’s body (including her uterus, pregnancy or choices related to those). That’s why she writes her opinions/posts here, as do we all. It’s our passion, it’s our truth, and it’s important to us, even though a lot of people like your husband get really mad at us for it.

I’m truly sorry that your husband used someone else’s opinions he disagreed with to instead get mad at you and treat you poorly. You don’t deserve that, and it’s not fair, not under any circumstances. But your husband’s mean and hurtful actions are his own fault – it’s not rational of him to get mad and storm out the door because of something someone else said that had nothing to do with him. It’s not much different than if you had a news-program on and he blamed you for the tv person saying s/thing that made him mad.

All that to say – I know this response does you no tangible good in your hurt right now, and the last thing you might care for is any of us reaching out to say “I’m so sorry for your pain and wish I could help you somehow” – but that’s what I’m giving you. If there’s anything I can do for you that would mean something, particularly if you want to talk more, please let me know.
